    iFLY - anyone can fly.

By invitation from Seven media and iFLY

Here I am - Getting an experience of sky diving in a wind tunnel (The world's largest no less).

I've heard all about skydiving from a commando friend years ago during my days after temasek poly. Alot of that talk included words like "Airborne" and having earned "your wings". I was truly delighted to earn mine.

iFLY announced on their first year anniversary that they are to host the first indoor skydiving world championships in Asia Pacific this December.

A four day event spanning 13 to 16 Decemeber, up to 400 flyers aronud the world are expected to compete in professional and amateur catagories. Cash and prizes of over S$150000 will be up for grabs while regirstion for the event will open this 2ndQ of the year.

Representing Singapore is Team Firefly's 10 year olf Kyra Poh and 11 year old Choo Yixuan whom I met on that day. They gutsy kids have been training over a year at iFLY Singapore and will be competing in the professional category. Wow.

Me and my ladies from RazorTV, in2it.com Gearing up
Coach Thomas Sumner: one heck of a tall dude
Are you wondering how many visitors iFLY has hosted since it opened its door last year? Mr. Lawrence Koh, founder and CEO of iFLY, the previous Officer Commanding of the SAF parachuting school and the team leader of the EliteSingapore Red Lions Parachuting Display Team (that you see every national day) lets us in that over 55000 were hosted at this indoor wind tunnel facility of his. Once a niche sport, Lawrence is most happy iFLY has been able to make skydiving available to everyone in a safe , realistic aad affordable indoor setting.

Alas I am airborne! This is me on round two I think.

    The wonderful team of instructors
Here's Yixuan and Kyra, they're super bubbly

Here are more pictures of the girls . They're soooo good.

    Getting interviewed for chnl 5
Camera man from RazorTV - (Out of the 7 of us media persons, he turns out to be the one who seem to have a natural talent for ski diving) :)

The SkyLoft - my picture doesn't quite do Justice but hey check out the unobstructed view ! And imagine the beauty when the fireworks come on at night!

Kyra was a sweet heart - I requested for a picture with her and Yixuan. I was surprised when she grabbed me and was holding to me so tightly LOL. These cheeky girls were inhaling the helium gas from the balloons after too. Makes me miss being a kiddo :)

I made a tour on that day of the newly opened SkyLoft - the rooftop bar and restuarant at iFLY Singapore that holds up to 250 people. It's a great spot for events and has arguable the best view of the South China Sea in Sentosa. Local bands such as Jack and Rai, as well as 53A and the likes of Shirlyn and the UnXpected will perform regularly here. And if that's not all, you get great view of the fireworks from Songs of the Sea nightly on weekdays and twice over the weekends.

The food was good - they serve things like truffle fries, and tempura mushrooms, pizzas and more. At a reasonable price! I was expecting alot more for a location in Sentosa. Cocktails start from $14. Not bad at all!

    Now, for some fun facts.

iFLY Singapore has hosted several famous flyers including Michael Schumacher, the Red Bull Toro Rosso F1 Team (Go Sebastien!) and Mr. Yam Ah Mee hehehehe.

Anyone from 7 up to 106 years old can fly! (yes it's never too late). People with certain disabilities can fly too.

    Now prices.

Beginner flight packages inclusive of training and 2 flight experiences start from $89 per person for adults. $79 for children and $85 for students.

Each flight experience lasts for approximately 2hrs.

Voluntary work - Party Parlour's face paints and balloon sculpting

Over the weekend, Guan Liang my balloon sculptor and myself popped by the Mother's day celebration for the Singapore Association of the Deaf and sponsored them with balloon sculpts and face paints, as well as water transfer tattoos.

Seems like machine guns and swords were the boy's favorite balloons. There were a cute pair of sisters too who requested for sharks to be painted on their faces. Here's some pictures we took :)

    Vidal Sassoon

Vidal Sassoon - the famed hairstylist who created the Bob and the Pixie Cut dead at age 84.

I remember using tonnes of Vidal Sassoon hair products as a kid. And growing up to the tunes of his advertisments that claimed " If you don't look good, we don't look good".

Today, while the brand is past its golden days. We now have his story documented in an upcoming movie.

The documentary "Vidal Sassoon: The Movie" follows the true rags-to-riches tale of how a boy from a London orphanage went on to revolutionize the hairstyles and fashion of the 1960s with his pioneering techniques.

    Browhaus - Browgraphy review

At the newly revampled Paragon Browhaus - one can be a happy camper :)

So a couple of weeks back, I popped by and was swiftly contained in a camp to undergo....
Browgraphy by Faye, one of the lovely Brow architects at Browhaus Paragon.

    Here's Faye at work :)

BROWHAUS the Brow Expert’s all-in-one brow treatment -  Browgraphy comprises of a Color Tweak and Brow Shaping so you can be super woman expect total transformation as the shape and color of your brows are reworked to Goddess perfection.

    Color Tweak
adjusts the color of your brows to your preference, using vegetable dye for 100% safety and maximum comfort. (Perhaps' it is like Henna). It only takes 10-15 minutes to alter your appearance and for some, like me, it's normal that you'll feel a pricky sensation.

They say lighter brows have a softening effect while darker brows sharpen features and add definition. What do you think? I chose to go brown - so that my hair and eyebrows match.

    !

Look ma - I have white eyebrows !

And a pimple that looks like a mole *gasp*

Next - Take your pick from Classic Threading, Modern Tweezing or Thread + Tweeze. Classic
Threading removes stray hair strands in a row resulting in a clean and natural-looking brow line, perfect for the boys. Modern Tweezing offers great precision for a well-defined brow shape. Thread + Tweeze combines threading and tweezing for a speedier treatment – and gives your brows the same defined look you can achieve from tweezing.

No stranger to threading since I've been undergoing it for years. I was all game.  And I was surprised to find out about the peace ampoule.

At the end of your Browgraphy treatment, expect instant cooling comfort with Peace, a gentle yet effective serum. Harvesting the natural properties of botanicals, Peace draws on the benefits of Larrea Divaricata, a leaf extract that is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and inhibits growth activity of the hair follicles. The result? Instant calming of skin post-hair removal and slower hair re-growth. It really worked like magic. I have super sensitive skin and for my skin to not turn red- that's a miracle that the Peace Ampoule achieved.

AND THE RESULTS   - i have bangs which make it quite hard to see but I'm sure neat eyebrows can be spotted.

With my new brows  - I jetsetted off to Phuket :)
Before I left, I got a lil gift -The Extend Lash and Brow SerumThe elixir promises longer, thicker eyelashes and brows in just 2 weeks with this powerful dual-performance serum containing star ingredient Protein
    Peptide.

Perfect for treating brittle, short, fragile, thin or sparse lashes and brow hair.

Rest assured Browhaus Extend will not cause unwanted hair growth and is safe for use on the delicate eye area. It is a non-sticky, non-irritating formulation.

I reckon I should get my mom to try out the Latisse eye lash serum she bought from JOYCE LIM's skin clinic while i test this and compare the results.Latisse is actually a version of a glaucoma drug in eye drop form called bimatoprost (brand name Lumigan, manufacturer Allergan, Inc.), in use since FDA approval in 2001. During that period, eye and their glaucoma patients noticed the hair growth side effect, with longer, lusher eyelashes appearing over time. Celebrities such as Jenny McCarthy and Mandy Moore have reportedly used Latisse, and its advertising spokespeople have included Brooke Shields and Claire Danes. And because it's prescription, effects will probably trump that of extend. But I'll like to see by how much more.

I haven't gotten down to trying EXTEND because i was contemplating undergoing Lasik and was down with an eye infection lately. I certainly would appreciate longer lashes.

    Fool Proof Directions:
Apply a thin line of Extend to the base of lash line (do not apply straight into lashes) and/or
eyebrow once a day after cleansing. Can be used on lower lash line too. Allow product to dry for several minutes before continuing your normal skincare regime. Reduce usage to 2 to 3x
weekly to maintain desired results. (SIMPLE ENUFF YEA?)

Browgraphy is available at all BROWHAUS and of course: BROWHAUS PARAGON
Get comfy at the newly expanded Browhaus Paragon, inspired by fun campsite memories – get your brows groomed in one of a 7 cheerful coloured tents, or book into a cosy log cabin to be tucked away in total privacy. Browhaus Paragon is located at 05-11 Paragon, tel: 6737 6585

The Body Shop + Cruelty Free International + Lily Cole

As citizens of a capitalist state - we are all part of this largely destructive act of Consumerism (whether we like it or not).

While you can't escape it totally. You definitely can put your money where your mouth is.

Since its founder, the late Annita Roddick, set up the United Kingdom-based company in 1976, The Body Shop has been synonymous with products that are natural, earth-friendly, cruelty free, and give back to the community.

This year, The Body Shop reaffirms those values with a new “beauty movement” and its first global brand advocate—actress and model Lily Cole.

They asked what does "Beauty with Heart" mean to all of us. Arming us with our Beauty passports - the team at Body Shop set us on our way to the three stations to find out. Namely Look Good, Feel Good and Do Good.
Now what is beauty to you? How does it define each and everyone of us. Is it the clothes that we wear that maketh the man. The amount of bling you accessorize with, the amount of make up you pile onto your skin, the flower in your hair? We all have our own definitions of Beauty. Some more superficial than others.

Beauty with heart is to me - the wonders of earth and nature. It's not easily quantifiable and I think it's just the idea of Life. It's the fact that you can take but you need to give back so balance is achieved. My favourite quote from

Shakespeare sums this up perfectly in writing: "A Touch of Nature Makes The Whole World Kin"

While getting into the swing of my whole paraben and sulphate free lifestyle. I realised that synthetics aren't always bad. Parabens are sometimes there in small amounts to keep your products bacteria free. Unfortunately some companies over sell this fact that they are Paraben free, choosing to ride on the wave of the consumer's paranoia or trends then to properly educate. Take for example a synthetic make up brush by The Body Shop. They work just as well (so long as you remember to recycle them). Choosing a synthetic brush over one made of bunny fur can definitely be a more ethical choice you make as a consumer.

Now BEAUTY WITH HEART is the new beauty movement slogan of The Body Shop. It encompasses Looking Good, Feeling Good, and Doing Good. I was most inspired to hear how The Body Shop as a brand made real progress and actually took the time to raise awareness in issues such as Sex trafficking and how collective power can help to stop that. I am glad The Body Shop sources and in turn directly impact communities in places such as Ghana where its Community Fair Trade programmes are ran.

    IMPACT
For a company with over 2700 stores in 63 countries, such movements and a united brand voice adds up. The brand - is Wood Positive (Which means they plant and protect more trees than what they use in their packaging). The company's new PULSE stores - such as the one in Jurong Point and the one at Raffles City are made from FSC wood.

Nira was seated right next to me at the table with all the the other bloggers included X-wen and Sarah.

I took some time out to get to know the brand further and to test their products, over a media luncheon last week. We were also told why Model and actress Lily Cole was chosen as The Body Shop’s first global brand advocate.

Point to note: No lovely beetles were crushed to provide the pink stain used in lots of cosmetics. Neither are fish scales used in Body Shop products. (Whew)

Prior to being the spokesperson for The Body Shop, Lily has been associatted with WaterAid, World Land Trust, Western Shoshone - an environmental org specializing in ending unethical gold and diamond minding and many more other initiatives. For the fact that Lily was involved with numberous humanitarian and environmental causes - she was thus chosen and was happy to represent The Body Shop.

In Lily's interview she mentioned a quote close to her heart was: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." - Reinhold Niebuhr
Here are some snapshots of Lily in Ghana.

Soooooo introducing The Body Shop + Lily Cole Cruelty-Free Make-Up This collection was created to celebrate the Against Animal Testing stance of The Body Shop and show that you don’t have to harm animals to create great products, looks and colors. Indeed as Lily says : that business can be a force for good and that it can be positively empowering both in our community and also the communities of others. The Body Shop has proven that ethical business practice can work on a global scale. It is sadly somewhat of an anomaly but hopefully that is changing! here's a peak of some of the exciting stuff from the
EYELINER - in a violet tone
HI SHINE LIP GLOSSES - available in 4 shades

PUFF ON RADIANCE POWDER (what a cute pot)
LIP AND CHEEK DOMES - in Pink and Peach too
    EYE SHADOW (God help me)
    EYESHADOW
There's alot more which you can check out instore. I was delighted to try the range of Beautifying Dry Oils as well. These are made out of light weight nut oils such as Sweet Almond, Kukui and Marula nut. Available in 11 amazing fragrances out of which I am sure Strawberry was my favourite. Take your pick from Coconut Shea Cocoa butter chocomania Moringa (which I spoke about previously) Olive Strawberry Mango Sweet Lemon Pink Grapefruit Satsuma (aka orange) Use it for your hair , face and body to smell divine all the time.

Here's the goodie bag I took home. - Minus the Moringa body oil i gave away to my IPL therapist at Fabulous .

And my bottle of Strawberry dry oil ( I used it right away) - the oils are actually pressed from strawberry 'seeds' that jam factories do not use. :) cool huh

Now here was the food served at Raffles Hotel where the luncheon was held at:

    Delectable it was.

    Some event snapshops:
