    Stellar @ 1-Altitude

With plenty of Skyhigh watering holes to check out, here's one I got down to a couple of weeks ago.

Ran by the good folks who gave you 1-Caramel and 1-Rochester. 1-Altitude is their newest addition to the group. 1-Altitude occupies the top 2 floors and the roof of the OUB Building. It features Stellar, a fine dining restaurant; 282 and City Golf, a sports bar and indoor golf simulator; and 1-Altitude, the highest rooftop bar in not just Singapore but the world.

Its menu is designed by Group Executive Chef Christopher Millar who is australian but largely 'french styled' in the way he cooks. I had the communal dinner set which cost SGD120++ and features homemade charcuterie and top-grade Jamon, insanely fresh sushi, an oyster bar (Shuck them gd), a wood-fired grill and rotisserie, and an all-new Patisserie selection from 1- Caramel.

Check out my 15secs of the fame game on openricetv where I talk about my favourite dish from Stella - The Sushi.

    I had namely the,
Unagi roll with avocado and Unagi sauce,
Spicy tuna roll with katsuo furikake and spring onion
Swordfish roll with fresh crab meat, prawns, aka miso and aonori
Ocean trout sashimi ( of which I'm told costs alot more than Salmon)
Sustainable blue fin tuna (which lead to me quizzing chef Millar on his sustainable focused menu)
Squid sashimi served with fresh grounded wasabi

The most interesting of all was the squid sashimi which Elaine would know I failed badly at picking it up with my chopsticks not once, twice but closer to five or six times. In the end she fed them to me. Looks like I've to insist on sushi prepared ala minute from now on, just like 1-Altitude.

While the folks at my table were really game when it came to tasting rabbit's meat which came with the Chaachuterie tasters I hesitated for a good 30mins. Now we were told that it was farmed rabbit meat. Farmed rabbit meat tastes like chicken, it's white meat as opposed to wild rabbits which are red meat. In my opinion, I'll rather have that poor bird again (yes the chicken), than to venture into experimenting my taste buds with rabbits.

Thumbs up for 1-Altitude's house cured ham and their brillant selection of sausages. Here's what comes in a tiered platter awaiting to be savored.

Wagyu bresaola - Stellars own home made wagyu beef bresaola
    Italian style air-dried beef
    Jamon Serano
Spainish cured ham similar to proscuitto
    Jamon Iberico Bellota acorn fed
Spanish Iberico acorn fed cured ham
    Proscuitto de Parma 20 months
    Italian cured ham
    Cotechino
    Italian sausage
    Chorizo
    Spanish sausage

A clear winner too was the Truffle risotto with Maine Lobster - ample shavings of black truffles atop rice baked and moistened with shellfish stock and generous servings of lobster meat, it sat well in my tummy and unlike other risottos I had, I didn't get that 'I'm stuffed' feeling. Each spoonful was a hearty burst of delight that got me hooked further.

Don't forget to try their creamy Paris mash potatoes, hand chured goodness bound to have you wanting more. It comes with their wood fired grill wagyu and perhaps certain other dishes too!

And just for fun - Guess what's this? It's umibudo, something I spotted on their other menu.

Umibudo (sea grapes) is a type of seaweed snack harvested on the Okinawan island of Miyako and it is served at 1-Altitude, it's something I hope to try soon!

Stumbled onto this song titled Christmas by Leona Naess from the soundtrack of the OC. I had it before my mac crashed last year. While youtube has removed it, tudou saves the day. Not sure how I can embed it so here's the link.

It's a perfect song for slow evenings and quite a romantic one too :)

Hoping I can lay my hands on either the Fujifilm Instax 50s or the Fujifilm Instax 7 before I pop over to Taiwai at the end of the month. Time to do some research on where I can get these at the best prices in town.

It's part nostalgia and part instant gratification with these cameras.

Somehow my post in this entry disappeared when my laptop's battery was drained.

Looks like my rantings about night out with Adeline failed to make it here.

See I finally found time last week to meet up with my girl friend for dinner, a movie, after which we popped by to check Filter @ Robertsons out for a drink before heading back.

I guess a yummy dinner, a bunch of laughs (You'll understand this if you've seen the gents at The Cathay)and a drink or 2 gives respite from our hectic work schedules.

To my dear boyfriend :) I'll never drink more then I can so don't you worry. I'm all about moderation and girls definitely need to stay glam ok? But well I just enjoy a tipple or two, something I did from young right.

Ok back to the gents at Cathay Cineleisure. The illustrations left us ladies quite confused indeed. We almost walked in? Let me show you why this is illustrator and illustrations FAIL.

See that? What's up with the girly face and the over saturated red lips. Tsk.
Caught us of guard really. Plus the amount of pink in the borders! If this isn't the ladies room tell me what is! hahahhaa

Heading to 1-Altitude tomorrow for dinner tasting at Stella.

Said to be situated 282 metres above sea level, 1-Altitude is one of Singapore’s highest dining and entertainment venues.

As one of Singapore's additions to our ever lengthening list of watering spots. It features Stella, a fine dining restaurant; 282 and City Golf, a sports bar and indoor golf simulator; and 1-Altitude, the highest rooftop bar in the world.

I had a chance to peek at the menu before hand this afternoon. Designed by Group Executive Chef Christopher Millar, it features homemade charcuterie, contemporary sushi, an oyster bar, a wood-fired grill and rotisserie, and an the Patisserie selection from 1- Caramel of which I am a fan of their strawberry short-cake.

Alas, I can't quite wait to tuck into the delightful spread and have a tipple over the acclaimed spectacular view.

More when I am back and satiated.

So in between a busy thursday, I found time to pop by Zirca for the ABSOLUT Bloody Party, thanks to wonderful ABSOLUT for the invitation. According to my bf too, the crowd was quite good looking. In particular the guys! (Not that anyone quite caught my eye but you get the drift. There aren't many good looking men in Singapore).

Hilarious how me and the girls kept smelling something funky in the air, only to realise that Zirca probably needs to send in the carpet maintenance people to get it shampoo-ed. I wonder if we were the only ones who noticed.

Yes I was a tad sloshed but surely the night ended well enough, and I woke in time for my bf's cousins' wedding at 8am!

ps. If you look a good cocktail that well, is somewhat antioxidant (as compared to others) of course you'll love ABSOLUT Bloody. Think generous amounts of vita c found in tomato juice.

How do you think Kate Beckingsale looks that good? :)

Flowers from the wedding I attended today. In lovely shades of purple and white. :)
Does anyone enjoy flowers as much as I do? I think my boyfriend does and that makes me happy.

Dear Pizza Hut, why aren't you offering this yet in Singapore?

I'm rather upset that I gave short+sweet 2010, that assortment of short 10-minute plays a miss. Although on separate notes, I'm getting really psyched about watching the Singapore Grand Prix this year live from the track, and also that little visit to Taiwan that I'm in the midst of planning for Sept.

Most recently, I was invited by insing.com for a food tasting session at Si Chuan Dou Hua restaurant. So here's my take on the food.

Also, not forgetting the picture I look with Dr Leslie Tay from ieatishootiblog.com, that man's a quirk in a good way and very easy going. A great teacher too, since he gave me a couple others a crash course on food photography.

Perched on the 60th floor of the UOB plaza, Si Chuan Dou Hua is a mélange of sensory engagement. With an interior reminiscent of a chinese palace, this one’s complete with a vast dining hall, a panoramic view of our cityscape, and a kaleidoscopic variety of delectable dim sum. At $20++, the Imperial High Tea is vast, varied and value-priced. To set the palate, we were served the elegant and delicate Long Jing Cha which lead into a procession of various “heart warmers” from the steaming hot to the crispy fried. The more traditional Har Gau and Siew Mai were my first rites, both of which tasted of fresh, succulent prawns. Equally enticing was the Steamed Crystal Vegetarian Dumpling where vegetal delights intermingle with a tang. The chart topper came in the form of a Sesame Sprinkled Pan-fried Seafood Bun, layered with squid/fish paste and seared crusty brown on top. Deeply flavorful, this dish certainly deserves the name"heart's delight." What are you waiting for? Because even the dim sum in geylang and victor's at sunshine plaza is priced the same, and you don't get no view like this. Head on down now and enjoy some culinary vertigo :)
