Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future
Even wonder what does Haute Couture means?Haute couture (French for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking"; pronounced: [ot kutyʁ], English pronunciation: /ˌoʊt kuːˈtʊər/) refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable seamstresses, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. Couture is a common abbreviation of haute couture and refers to the same thing in spirit.
Only certain fashion houses are allowed by law to use the term Haute Couture. They must present to the press in Paris twice a year a collection of a minimum of 50 pieces, for day and evening. The collection must be made in their own workrooms with 20 or more workers, and they must show the collection in-house, in dedicated salons.
At Valentino, the price for such a piece starts from $100,000 Euros.
So the good folks at Cozycot and I were hosted by the exhibitors and taken through this wonderful exhibition of Valentino's 'legacy'. We loved what we saw, even the boys were taken :)
About the Exhibition
One hundred pieces of exquisite haute couture designs by Italian maestro, Valentino Garavani, will be featured in a curated exhibition at Resorts World
Sentosa (RWS) from 22 December 2010 to 13 February 2011. The seven-week long show promises to take visitors into a world of timeless glamour and elegance.
The exhibition – ‘Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future’ – is developed by Paris’ celebrated institution Les Arts Décoratifs, and it will feature haute couture looks from founder Valentino Garavani’s early designs to present-day creations by current Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It features pieces own by Valentino, and private collectors.

OPI shatter top coat
However it has taken my over like a week to even snap a picture of my nails and the polish has already chipped.
Nonetheless here's a picture for all.
I know a seller online who is selling this at only $14 a bottle. Way cheaper then the retail price of $20 and up.
I met a lady who was rather intrigued by my nails at the gala of a great great world. As usual, we women get excited, she proceeded to hold up my hands and shake it with quite some zest.
I used the color "Not like the movies for the base coat, and topped it with the shatter top coat.
OPI Not like the movies is a silver color with a greenish opal gleam.
A tip though: Do not use reds as a base, doesn't look good at all. White works well though.
Email me if you are keen to find out where you can get cheap OPI polishes at jaynealethea(at)gmail(dot)com :)
Apparently the OPI Shatter top coat looks great on gold as well as multi colored nails!
A word of caution, do not paint it on bare nails, It will not "crack/shatter at all". There has to be polish on your nail already for it to take effect.

It's a Great Great World - by Kelvin Tong

Recently, I was engaged by Mediacorp Raintree pictures via my polaroid blogshop to do the photography for their gala premiere of "It's a Great Great World" held on 26 Jan, at vivocity.
(Thanks to the lovely Casey and Huihui of Mediacorp Raintree pictures).
There was the suave mediacorp CEO, Mr Lucas Chow of course who presented the film, Director Kelvin Tong..(whom I realised wasn't as adept with Mandarin as I would have thought). He was however a candid and humble guy peppering his whole speech with bouquets for his cast members and the staff behind the scenes.
And then there was the Minister of Communication, Mr Lui Tuck Yew and his wife who were a really cute couple, along with Royston Tan (Director of local films 881 and 15), and Samuel Seow, possibly Singapore's best know media lawyer who I have met back in 2008 during the Miss Earth Singapore pageant. I was pleasantly surprised when he spotted me in the crowd and came to exchange a few words.
My bestie whom I brought along to the event was clearly star strucked. Requesting I took pictures of her with some of the artistes. But what a darling, she was helping me with my bags and also gave me a helping hand with taking polaroid shots of the invited guests.
Yes the stellar cast included Olivia Ong, Gurmit, Yvonne, Paige, Joanne and old timers like Xiang Yun, Chew Chor Meng, Hui Ge and more. The Straits Times reviewers had only given the film 3 our of 5 stars. I should think it deserved 4 stars.
I'll give it 4 mainly because I loved loved loved the props, the music, the language and the jokes. There were a couple of stories intertwined into one, as well as the juxtaposing of modern day values against the past. The movie also touched on love, lost, separation, and key historical events such as the japanese invation, and a speech made by Mr Lee Kwan Yu. (Be prepared to read the subs if you don't understand completely -Teochew, hockien and Hainanese.)
My favourite characters were the pair of brothers played by Bryan Wong and Zhang Yao Dong, their jokes were best! Hui Ge, who acted as "Ah Boo" was super cute too. You'll see him dancing in the first few scenes of the show.
As Todayonline says"... it is the final vignette that makes this movie shine. The winning combination of Marcus Chin, Kym Ng, Chen Shu Cheng, Bryan Wong, Zhang Yao Dong banter and bond with fantastic chemistry and exuberance. "
I'll say bring your folks and grandparents to watch this now :) to sweeten the event, goody bags were given out with five stones, marbles, candy, a chapteh, carnival tokens to the uncle ringo funfair, and tubes of blowing balloons. Nostalgia much?

So yes, while I was busy snapping pictures for the artistes and guests, I only had 1 taken together with film-maker Royston Tan. But I really wanted one with Chen Su Chen and sadly ...only had time to snap one of him with my bestie.

You'll always be my baby
Dedicated to my love, Angel. For all the joy you've brought me, for holding it up all these years, for all your playful antics, kisses, naughtiness, and for the times you let me nibble your nose. Know how much I miss you?
Angel

The only dog who lets me cradle her like a baby and actually doesn't struggle. sigh. God knows I miss you so.
May I dream a little dream of you and I tonight.
And till we meet again my dear, I'm loving you always.

Christmas!
Dear friends, as some of you may have known. I have since left my full time job in public relations and have started a little events business which includes catering to private events with face painting, glitter tattoos, airbrush tattoos in addition to a running store that organizes sprees on brands such as Kate Spade and Coach. :)Do check out my faint painting and glitter tattoo/balloon sculpting blog here
That aside, is everyone gearing up for xmas already? I've done all my xmas shopping online this year and my wishlist is simple.
All I want for Xmas is an Iphone 4. Perfect for running my business I think. I also wish to be able to explore Cambodia,Laos and Vietnam in 2011 and Paris in 2012 perhaps. (A girl can have her dreams right?).
I'm also getting this baby soon - the instax mini 50s in Piano Black! Isn't it a beauty? I'm kinda upgrading from my instax mini 25 to the 50s.
If you like one too, you can click here for more polaroid and instant fun and films.

Sometimes I wished I was wendy in peter pan, or alice in wonderland. I'm a huge burton and depp fan, and I reckon the only anti-aging methodology is to have dreams, gun for them, and believe that disneyland is still the happiest place on earth.
