The post to put you in your place
Now you can change the world 1 chair at a time.Something about chairs really intrigue me, could me the large number of hours one spends in them, the way it (hopefully) fits to your curves and contours, the way you can sit in one and watch the world go by. While I love love love chairs.
I heart even more one that's made out of 111 recycled bottles.
With Emeco and Coca-cola. The original emeco navy chair in aluminium has a match made in heaven. Conceptualized some four years ago by the coke executives that approached Emeco to turn empty plastic bottles into chairs.
Everywhere else in the world people recycle about 80% of their bottles while in the US only about 20% gets recycled (About time I say).
Coke asked Emeco to make the classic Navy Chair out of a new, unproven formulation of rPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate- recycled plastic bottles). They then introduced Emeco to the scientists at BASF the international chemical innovator and together we developed proprietary mix made of about 60% and a special combination of pigment combined with glass fiber for strength.
In Coke-Speak, “The goal of the 111 Navy project was to alter consumer behavior by illustrating the value of rPET with beautifully designed and everyday products - ultimately encouraging more recycling.”
Requiring a state-of-art mold, the new 111 Navy Chair™ includes the original stretcher (structural brace) below the seat. This detail not only assures authenticity, but creates great structural integrity. The 111 Navy Chair™ carries a 5-Year structural guarantee. The new 111 Navy Chair™ is available in six colors: Red, Snow, Flint Gray, Grass Green, Persimmon and Charcoal. Snow, Flint and Red can be used outdoors. The new chair has a distinctive, “velvet” finish that is scratch resistant. The new chair passes California and UK Fire Codes, along with BIFMA structural testing for commercial use.
Replicating the original Navy Chair in recycled plastic required an advanced molding technique, and the expertise of Magnus Breitling, Emeco’s esteemed Director of Product Development. The gas assist process adds internal structure to the chair while minimizing the amount of material required. The chair body is manufactured upside down in a special core island while a robotic function inserts the stretcher into place while the chair is still hot. The entire mold runs at an elevated temperature to yield optimum surface appearance and color. At three minutes per chair, It takes three times longer to make a 111 Navy Chair ® than a typical plastic chair.
Chairs will be available at SPACE in Singapore.
Enough talk. Here are the pictures!

Corrinne May - 5 Loaves and two fishes.
Watch it if you haven't. And be sure to gear up for the fantastical fight scenes, and warped moral messages in dramatic proportions.
I am loving the performance of Nicholas Cage as Big daddy and the 13 year old Chloe Moritz as Hit Girl.
Wish all graphic novel adaptations were done this way. In the grainy color devoid world such as what we saw in frank Miller's 300. And Kick ass:)
SHUT UP AND KICK ASS :)
Do the Lomo-motion
I am annoyed at how many bad shots came out on this roll of film. Funny because they were taken in good lighting. (Also, this is probably a crime but it's my first roll of exposures since getting the fisheye lomo cam as a gift over 2 years ago). I am only proud of these 3 shots you see below.Nonetheless, more happy snaps once I finish my next roll of film. (Which will feature Terraced Rice fields, Lake Batur and the busy ubud market of Bali). :)
Soon I promise.

Idea killers!

It's really cute. Click to enlarge and read.
Creatives will definitely dig these.

Today, I am extremely disturbed after stumbling on an aerial view of slaughtered baby harp seals.
These 3 week old baby seals are hunted too often for their fur in places such as Canada, Russia and Norway during whelping season in March/ April.
Early this year, the Russian government placed a ban on seal clubbing, while the law has stepped in. We all know things still go on unregulated.
Each seal pelt fetches up to 33 dollars each. (Which really isn't much, and I believe an animal's life is worth so much more.)
Every year, over 300000 seals in Canada alone are clubbed to death in the spring, while the trade of these pelts are banned in US, Belgium and Germany. Our neighbors up east in China, Taiwai, Korea and fashionable Hk have not done so. Neither has the Canadian government place a ban on this inhumane activity.
Please go to the humane society international petition page to sign your pledge in boycotting Canadian seafood and tourism till something is done to protect these baby harp seals.

Thank you.

Hello to the overwhelming sense of boredom that just came over me this afternoon. I hope you leave soon.
Inspired by Stefan's sagmeister's list of happiness.
Here's what makes me happy at work.
Seeing someone recycle anything at all makes me happy.
Something about foreign accents makes me sit up and listen.
Music from the hallway/a stranger's desk is still music :)
I totally agree with his point that complaining is silly. Either act or forget.
Here's my version since I cannot help complaining.
Blaming others is silly. If there's a problem. Solve it. Don't create another.
Try not to forget than even your aggressors are human. they have a soft side if you search hard enough.
Bad days make you treasure the great ones more.
Isolation/alone time is absolutely necessary to get yourself organized and constantly inspired.
I do digress but these leads to what I want to do with all my free time.
Learn French
Learn to play the guitar
Read The Great Gatsby, Blankets.
Read more books on investment/business
Eat my fav ravioli at greenwood ave
Learn to make fabulous choc chip cookies
Dabble in some flower arrangements.
Chapter 7!
Funny how all the books I've been reading feature a female lead named Laura. All that doom and gloom in this one so far is reminiscent of an old song I know, the one about poor Tommy and of course Laura. (Boy loves girl, Boy wants to marry girl. Boy goes racing hoping to win and buy her a wedding ring. Boy dies.... :( )
Also, I should find time to reinstall the games on my Nintendo Ds and to finish the remaining exposures left on my fisheye camera! Perhaps next weekend I'll find time to get down to those.
Alas, it's the big guy above whom I give thanks to for all the blessings, and even the challenges I've been facing.
Hong Kong

Happy Birthday to you, the one who makes me smile.

The goodness of a champagne mooncake
I love mooncakes, but never really liked those with the 'snowskin', there was a point in time where i actually detested the taste of snowskins (age 10 perhaps). To be perfectly honest, to me, the best mooncakes are those with the nicely baked brown skin, no yolk. Just the humble lotus seed paste with its unpretentious overlay.Actually, take away the lotus paste, just give me the yummy brown mooncake skins.
I would settle for those 'little caged pigs' readily..(very much like mooncake skin)
There is however a certain mooncake I cannot get enough of. The Raffles Hotel Champagne truffle mooncake. Comes in a nice vintage styled tin box which is different every year (yes go crazy collectors). With it's perfectly thinned skin, just the right quantity of lotus paste, and its white truffle chocolate center that does more than melt in your mouth. This little piece of heaven is..nothing short of DIVINE.
And champagne, "my only regret in life is that I didn't drink enough Champagne"

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Current Read: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
Oh the dissension of Art vs Nature, Aesthetics vs Ethics. And that tinge of forbidden, or stall i say a rather overt injection of homosexuality. Very very entertaining.
Now here's a quote taken from Chapter 1 -It talks about Physiognomy -which is a believe that an individual's appearance, in particular their face, reveals character.
"But beauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins. Intellect is in itself a mode of exaggeration and destroys the harmony of any face" ...."Look at the successful men in any of the learned professions. How perfectly hideous they are!"
L'Objet du Jour

Black/Gray/Creme?
I can't quite decide! :)
Love of Siam - Now showing at Golden Village

Nice to know that Love of Siam is now showing at golden village in Singapore. I caught this over the internet a year ago with my brother. (One of our rare sibling bonding time). So anyways, great movie. Might be a tad confusing at parts but the good looking cast and catchy sound track will keep you in your seats. Great acting from the veteran thai actress who plays Tong's mother. IF you must know, the director is pretty good at singing too.
All in all the film touches on aspects such as family relations, a good tear jerker. Enjoy!
Synopsis
Two young boys are best friends living quiet family lives in Bangkok. Their lives are disrupted when one boy's older sister goes missing on a jungle trip. The shattered family moves away, separating the boys. Years later, now in their late teens, the boys meet again. One of them is now the leader of an aspiring boy band (The August band) whose managing assistant bears a striking resemblance to the lost sister. The boys must deal with their family and social lives and their feelings for each other.
Marketed like your teenage romance flick. The gay elements will certainly be a surprise for the average movie go-er.
The Love of Siam dominated Thailand’s 2007 film awards season, winning the Best Picture category in all major national film award events, including the Thailand National Film Association Awards, Starpics Magazine’s Starpics Awards, the Bangkok Critics Assembly Awards, Star Entertainment Awards, and Kom Chad Luek Newspaper’s Kom Chad Luek Awards. It's a film I would totally recommend, irregardless of the controversial content.
oh that hurts.

The Bruise I got from the IV Injection. Instant bravery.
Just what were the creative team behind this campaign thinking?
Fancy Fetuses? How about one that lust over driving an Alfa Romeo.
Born for it, born with it or not.
That's a kiddo that I'll think twice about having.
C'est La vie?
Ahhh, the unannounced hiatus has come to an end. For those who are wondering, plans for my blog shoppe have been delayed. This I will conveniently blame it on the new job, as well as the boy. :)Ok, I take my words back. Maybe it was just me procratinating.
I'm back to practicing Public relations, in between preping for a GMAT exam, as well as trying to hold back my wanderlust for abit.
Also, I'm considering taking up french class and working alil bit harder on Salsa!
I'll write soon! And with my next post, as a visual treat! Pictures will be included

Sometimes I wished I was wendy in peter pan, or alice in wonderland. I'm a huge burton and depp fan, and I reckon the only anti-aging methodology is to have dreams, gun for them, and believe that disneyland is still the happiest place on earth.
